Te Kāhui o Taranaki Trust offers a range of grants to assist uri with their academic aspirations. The grants support whānau, marae/pā, hapū and uri to reach their potential.
 
If you are thinking about studying, whether at a tertiary institution or other recognised education provider, please see details below:
  • Secondary School Grants are open from 5 January 2026 to 31 March 2026
  • Tertiary Grants are open from 5 January 2026 to 31 March 2026
  • Vocational Training Grants open from 5 January 2025 to 30 June 2026; and
  • Non-fundable short courses, conferences, membership subscriptions and non-studylink applications are open from 5 January 2026 to 30 June 2026.

The overall aim of Te Kāhui o Taranaki (TKOT) Education Grants is to provide financial assistance to Taranaki Iwi students who are enrolled in a New Zealand Secondary School or Tertiary Institute/Training Provider.

 The Applicant must:

  • Be of Taranaki Iwi descent;
  • Be based in New Zealand;
  • Be enrolled in a Secondary School or Tertiary Institute/Training Provider in New Zealand.

GRANT APPLICATION ELIGIBILITY

Available to all students who are enrolled full-time at a New Zealand Secondary School or full-time | part-time at a New Zealand Tertiary Institution or Vocational Training | apprenticeship and in which the applicant MUST:

  • Be of Taranaki Iwi descent. Registered with Te Kāhui o Taranaki.
  • Be based in New Zealand.
  • Be enrolled with a Government recognised secondary school or tertiary institution, vocational training scheme or apprenticeship in New Zealand.
  • Submit a fully completed application including all required information by the closing date (incomplete or late applications will not be considered).
  • Provide proof of enrolment for year of the grant application and a transcript or report of the grades for the previous year (if applicable).
  • Provide verification of bank account details.

Grants are open to applicants of all ages that meet the eligibility criteria.

Actual grant amounts are dependent on the number of successful recipients. Please refer to Appendix 1 of the Eligibility Information.

Taihonoa Partner

Te Kāhui o Taranaki are proud Taihonoa Partners of Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington.

Tertiary education grants and scholarships awarded by Te Kāhui o Taranaki are matched dollar-for-dollar by Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington through the Taihonoa partnership programme.

To be eligible, you must be enrolled at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington and must submit your scholarship application prior to the closing date.

2026 Tertiary education grants and scholarship rounds open 5 January 2026 and close 31 March 2026.

 

Taranaki Iwi and PKW Scholarship

We have partnered with PKW in offering an Undergraduate Scholarship to the total value of $2,500 targeted toward students who are studying in the field of Environmental Planning and/or Resource Management.

This scholarship will also be available via the Grants Portal.
