Discretionary Grants

Taranak Iwi is committed to assisting and supporting uri, marae pā and hapū to reach their full potential and strengthen connections to their Taranakitanga. 

Our uri discretionary grants and packs are guided by our strategic whenu – Taranakitanga and Whanake mai ai.  Below are grant and pack information and links to apply.

Taranakitanga Grants 

Our Taranakitanga Grants are to strengthen connections to  Taranakitanga through cultural and sporting events and activities. They can be used for whānau hui, reunions, cultural wānanga, Taranaki Iwi sports teams and events that align with building identity.  

• A maximum of $5,000 per project that promotes cultural growth and connection amongst whānau affiliated to Taranaki Iwi. 

• A maximum of $1,000 per individual who represents at a cultural or sporting event at a national level. 

• A maximum of $200 per individual who represents at a cultural / sporting event at a regional level.

Hapū E Tū Grants 

Our Hapū e Tū grants are to support the revitalisation of hapū in any way they feel is appropriate for them. The Hapū E Tū grants are available: 

• To support hapū to engage with their uri through regular hapū hui, wānanga and events that bring the hapū whānau together to learn their whakapapa connections, kōrero and waiata. 

• To support hapū to run a series of strategy hui to determine what their hapū aspirations are. 

• To help hapū to establish a formal entity if hapū members decide that it is appropriate. 

There are three tiers of support: 

• $2,500  – an initial grant to reimburse hapū for a hui (or series of hui) so uri can decide whether they want to formally establish a hapū entity to represent them. 

• $5,000 – one-off support for hapū to formally establish a hapū entity. 

• $10,000 – an annual grant for hapū that have formally established a hapū entity.

Pāhake Packs 

Our Pāhake Gift Packs are available to registered uri aged 60 years or older.  These gift packs acknowledge pāhake with a few special items.

Kura Waenga Packs 

Our Kura Waenga Gift Packs (Starting Intermediate Pack) are available to registered parents whose tamaiti are in their first year of Intermediate (Year 7/Form 1) from 1 January 2025.  These gift packs acknowledge tamariki starting intermediate with a few special items.

Kura Tuatahi Packs 

Our Kura Tuatahi Gift Packs (Starting School Pack) are available to registered parents whose tamaiti has turned five years old from 1 January 2025. These gift packs acknowledge tamariki starting school with a few special items.

Pēpi Packs 

Our Pēpi Gift Packs are available to registered parents whose pēpi were born within the first six months of their arrival.  These gift packs acknowledge the arrival of your pēpi with a few special items. 

You will need to provide either a Well Child – Tamariki Ora (My Health Book) photo of the inside page of the book including the NHI Sticker at the bottom OR the Birth Certificate. 
Packs will not be distributed without ONE of the above documents.
